The school building was completed in 1994. It was occupied by Maktab Sains since 3 February 1994. Maktab Sains moved to new site in Jalan Muara in April 2005. SM Rimba moved to the present site on 25 April 2005. The present building has all the modern facilities such as well-equipped science, computer and language laboratories. The school was officially opened by Dato Paduka Hj Sheikh Adanan bin Hj Sheikh Mohamad, the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Education, on 9 May 2005.
